I AM MOGUL SUMMER BUSINESS SCHOOL: DENISE BROWN, STYLIST

We are so excited about our very first I am Mogul Summer Business School for women on the 11th & 12th August in London! We have an action packed two day programme that will help women develop professionally and personally and become the Moguls that have been waiting to get fully unleashed.

We are blessed to have Denise Brown delivering our Dressing for success session, who has styled your favourite celebrities such as Rihanna, Kanye West and Ed Sheeran.

We caught up with Denise to find out what she has planned for her session on the Saturday and to get her advice on dressing for success.

What makes you passionate about supporting women in particular with confidence in their wardrobe and dressing for success?

My passion started at 11 years old when I first picked up a needle and thread and started to sew my own clothes. This led to working in my first retail job in a shoe shop at 15 years old and seeing how the perfect pair of shoes can make a woman feel special. Growing up, I loved interacting with people and my 9 years in retail taught me all about working with different individuals from all walks of life, each with their own unique experiences and needs.

With 10 years styling experience, I have styled over 100 women and the passion to make them look and feel good has remained a constant throughout my career. I pride myself in supporting women from all backgrounds in achieving their goals and building their self-esteem and confidence. Looking back at all the women I have dressed, it makes me feel so proud as a woman to know that I am doing my job well.

What are some of the things women need to learn when it comes to developing their professional girl boss style?

A girl boss should be confident and know what she wants in life. However, if she is not as self-assured, then it’s up to her clothes to represent confidence. You need to be prepared to take risks in your life whether that’s climbing the career ladder or taking a leap and creating your own job. You need to be open to change, be approachable and likeable and of course, network with people. A boss must be prepared to work hard for her goals and give back where she can. Above all, she should always remain humble.

A girl boss needs to know what clothes will suit her figure. The first place to start is with a well fitted bra and great shape wear if needed. A capsule wardrobe is essential, this could consist of a black dress, blazer, blouse, pumps, tights, jeans, t-shirt, sunglasses, statement bag and accessories. The perfect staples for the ultimate girl boss closet!

What makes a woman a MOGUL in your eyes?

A confident, strong minded and wonderful woman who works hard and makes a difference in people’s lives. Whether she’s delivering a service, selling products or teaching, she injects passion into everything she does and exudes confidence wherever she goes. She’s a woman who has broken down obstacles and never stops until she achieves her goals and is constantly pushing open new doors when they try to remain shut. While she strives for success, she takes risks and creates her own doors even when people say she cannot do so. She is a woman who never allows anything to hold her back from what she wants to achieve and never lets her past pain stop her from reaching her potential.

What are some of the things that hold women back from feeling confident in the way that they dress?

Their figure and size is one of them; lots of women wear the wrong clothes for their shape which means they don’t showcase the best parts of their bodies. Many women have insecurities around their bodies, and sometimes find themselves stuck in a style rut, wearing what they are used to even if they aren’t the most flattering clothes. It’s hard to step out of the comfort zone, but discovering what works best for your figure is the first step to great style!

Some women love what their favourite celebrities wear, however they struggle to visualise the garments in their own wardrobes as they have never taken big risks with their style before. Furthermore, many women believe that you have to wear designer brands to look and feel good which isn’t always true. There are a lot of high street clothing stores who are up to date with trends and have some amazing clothes for every budget.
