7 things we love about Beyonce’s Lemonade

Queen B has done it again! This morning she released her new ‘visual’ album LEMONADE. Based on love, pain, deceit, family, history and the story of black people all over the world she did not disappoint! When I watched this video I was ten minutes in and I got Goosebumps. Can I just say there was no holding back, Bey gave ART at its true form-RAW! We have to remember that on top of being a renowned superstar and probably one of the most talented women in the world. She is also a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister and a friend.

Beyonce created a story with this album, showing her vulnerability and her profound way of speaking out- When you watch LEMONADE and I say watch because you have to watch it, listening won’t have the same effect. You’ll understand why we really do call her Queen B- she has the ability to turn pain into storytelling, storytelling into a movie and a movie into money.

1. Black Girl Magic: Beyoncé gives us a history lesson and reminds black girls all over the world that we matter. She referenced Malcolm X’s quote ‘The most disrespected person in America is the Black woman, the most unprotected person in America is the Black woman’

Beyonce take no crap

2. New Squad goals:  This image below is just powerful. Step aside Taylor Swift because a new squad is in town! Beyonces squad includes Zendaya, Amandla Sternberg, Chloe and Halle Bailey, Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Diaz.

3. Black Lives STILL Matter: Beyoncé did not let us forget the slaughter of black boys in America and featured the Mothers of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown.

4. Strength: Beyoncé showed so many images and references of sisterhood and a woman’s strength to keep going, to keep fighting the battle of life! The best line ‘Ima keep running cos a winner don’t quit on themselves’ YAS!

5. Don’t take any crap from a man-PERIOD: What did Jay Z do? We have no idea but Queen B is not here for being taken for granted and neither should we!

take no crap

6. Pain from a broken heart: Even Beyoncé knows how it feels to be betrayed by the one you love and shows it is okay for a moment to feel weak and helpless. She reminds us that every woman, no matter who you are can relate to the helplessness of a broken heart.

she has been hurt before beyonce

7. Forgiveness: I guess this is what Lemonade really is all about. Whatever life throws at you, make the best of it, remember the good and forgive.

We Salute you: Baroness Doreen Lawrence

This week marks 23 years since the tragic murder of 18 year old Stephen Lawrence in South East London. The circumstances surrounding Stephen’s murder can only be described as senseless, which took the life of a young man and left a family in mourning.

In 1993 Stephen was stabbed to death as he waited at a bus stop in Eltham South East London, immediately after the tragedy Doreen and Neville Lawrence claimed that the investigation was not being handled in a professional manner and after years of campaigning the family was awarded a judicial enquiry by then Home Office Secretary Jack Straw. The enquiry was to investigate the circumstances of Stephen’s death and concluded that the Metropolitan Police was institutionally racist which led to their failure to solve the case. This was the beginning of decades of campaigning for justice and change for Doreen and her family.

Doreen Lawrence has always inspired me, she demonstrates a mother’s strength – one that is relentless in protecting her family and the memory of her son. Her fight for justice was not only for her son but to for all victims of racist crimes and through her work she has been able to help reform the police service. Not only has she been the public face to stop racism, she also works with organisations to drive change from the inside, she sits on the panel of the Home Office and Police Service, is a member of both the board and council of Liberty and a patron of Stop Hate UK. In addition, Doreen and her family founded the Stephen Lawrence charitable Trust to promote a positive community legacy in her son’s name – she has taken the negative from the tragedy of losing her son and has turned it into a positive image of hope for change and equality in the UK.

Her hard work has not gone unnoticed, in 2014 she was named Britain’s Most Influential Woman in the BBC’s Woman’s Hour Power List. Theresa May’s statement sums up how impactful Doreen Lawrence has been in the fight for justice and equality. She has been the voice of the afro-Caribbean community and minority groups across the UK who have been affected by the failings of the police force and to mothers who have lost a child in such a horrible way.

“Baroness Lawrence had been faced by a “terrible tragedy”, yet picked herself up and carried on fighting to ensure that justice could be done. What is most striking about this woman is the great strength that she has shown over decades – strength to carry on, to keep on going, even in the most difficult times when all seemed impossible,”

“Also striking is the persistence that she has shown, because she has never given up. And finally, what is most impressive about this game-changer is that throughout it all, over the years, despite blow after blow, she has dealt with everything with absolute dignity.” Theresa May

5 reasons why we love Cara Delevingne

Cara Delevingne has just been announced as the new face of Rimmel London following in the footsteps of legendary supermodel Kate Moss. The 23 year old model and actress will star in her first campaign later this year. To mark this occasion we give you 5 reasons why we are loving Ms. Delevingne right now!

Her fierce, take it or leave it attitude – Cara doesn’t hold back and says it how it is – no pretense, no black and white – no sugarcoating! Her response to her cringe-worthy interview with American anchors at Good Day Sacramento was a classic when she tweeted:
Cara tweet about sense of humour

Keep Calm and Cara on!

Her Eyebrows – Her Eyebrows are on Fleek! #EyebrowsOnFleek

Her Concern about Wider Issues – she recently spoke up about her battle with depression and mental health and wants to help and raise awareness about others that are battling with a similar issue. She also detested and voiced concerns of the brutal slaughter of Cecil the Lion, advocating the issues faced against our diminishing wildlife

tweet about depression

Challenges the Norm – she is the epitome of everything that a “model”isn’t– her love for fast food, her love of GTA (Grand Theft Auto) she plays the drums, she sings, she beatboxes – is there anything that she can’t do?!

Her Weirdness – she does the oddest, craziest things at times but we still have love for Cara – she is awesome!
