We met with Roxanne to find out more about her career and branching out to start her own business!

Did you always want to become a nail technician?
Yes I did! I’ve always loved and enjoyed doing nails. Even as a child I used to practice painting nails on my aunties and cousins. My mum used to be a Nail Technician she really inspired me to get into the Nail industry and to study a course in Nail Technology.

How did you break into the industry?
I studied a course in Nail Technology at Hammersmith college. Before receiving my certificate I got my first job in High Street Kensington (NYNC) New York Nail Company. Where my mum used to work-then I worked in the Harvey Nichols Champagne Nail bar (Nails Inc) and O.P.I in London Selfridges. After working for all these companies and gaining years of experience I decided to go freelance.

Who are your inspirations in the nail industry?
Sophy Robson was my favourite Nail Artist. I absolutely loved her work I used to read all her quotes in Vogue magazine and check out all her work and portfolio online. My dream was to work with her and I did! I joined her Nail team and became one of her assistants for London Fashion Week.

You have worked with some amazing celebrities such as Adele and for famous events such as LFW/NYFW what steps did you have to take to get there?
First I gained experience and perfected my nail skills to a high level. Assisting the biggest names in the Nail industry. I won Nail competitions coming 3rd and 2nd place, then reaching one of my ultimate goals-winning Manicurist of the year! I then worked on test shoots with photographers. That led me to working on editorials and advertising campaigns with Dior, Elle, Vogue, Tatler and Rimmel London to name a few.

There are lots of nail technicians around the world and in the UK, how have you made the transition to stand out?
I’m a perfectionist and I’m professional- I like all my clients to feel special. I’m also very friendly and polite. I listen to what my client wants and I deliver their request.

What has been the most fun shoot or client?

The most fun shoot I have ever  worked on was with Elle Magazine in collaborating with Dior. The talents for the shoot where dancers from The Royal Ballet. It was incredible watching them dance with the fan blowing their coats and hair. It was really cool to watch!

The most fun client I have worked with is Eric Underwood. He is extremely talented, and fun to work with. He has a great sense of humour! Working with great clients like Eric makes me enjoy my job even more.

You entered the world of business in 2016 creating your own nail brand, why did you want to create your own nail lacquer?

Firstly I noticed their wasn’t much British nail brands. Other then Rimmel London, Nails Inc and Leighton Denny. Most of the biggest nail brands are made in the USA. I wanted to create a unique luxury nail brand from the UK. I was using different nail brands for over 10 years. So I know what a good product is. It was exciting creating my own nail lacquer because I knew what ingredients and pigments I wanted to have made in my formula. The most fun part was creating the names for each shade.

Describe what the journey has been like in this new venture, what surprised you and what did you learn?
Its been exciting, challenging, hard work and most of all rewarding. It surprised me the number of companies who where not interested in the beginning. But, now they all want to collaborate.

Tell us about your inspirations behind the winter collection?

I love fashion in the winter. I get some of my inspiration from fashion designers. I absolutely love warm dark colours. `Expensive Taste’ is a very dark rich red almost black. This is my favourite colour from my whole collection. It goes with everything you are wearing and almost any occasion. ‘Wine And dine’ is a beautiful shade of red its not to dark or too light. ‘Stormy Weather’ is my best selling shade. Look magazine loves it too! It looks stunning on all skin tones and different nail lengths.

What is next from you and your brand?
I will be launching a luxury nail service. Delivering nail treatments in the comfort of your home provided by professional Nail Experts. I will aslo launch new colours and expand into other nail care products such as hand creams, cuticle oil, scrubs etc.
